It’s full steam ahead for the Evergreen team this winter!
On top of all the normal farm work, we have been busy resolving rabbit problems up and down the length of the UK.
An interesting contract that we recently completed was a huge sea defence support project in North Wales.
A large infestation of rabbits had burrowed into sea defences and the surrounding embankments.
The landowner of the area was concerned about the prospect of a landslide or subsidence to their very nice new buildings which could result in them becoming a lot more “waterside” than desired!
Following the normal survey and quote process, our unusual scope of works was accepted.
Our client naturally did not want to upset the beautiful coastal views of the area, so we created an unorthodox approach to the project and put forward an idea of an effective horizontal barrier rather than the normal vertical fencing deterrent
We removed the resident rabbits with our team of ferrets and nets, supported by our ever loyal and dedicated team of working dogs, trained to locate rabbits.
Once happy that the area was clear our MD gave the go ahead to start the super hard work of erecting the horizontal barrier.
Instead of installing a standard fence around the area which could potentially ruin the glorious panoramic views, we laid heavy duty galvanised mesh onto the ground, which was secured by pins, each section interlocking creating an impenetrable barrier.
With time the grass will grow through this mesh becoming an ongoing but invisible layer of protection for the area preventing any further infestations burrowing into the land ensuring that pests will move on to pastures (or embankments) less well protected!
A great example of how Evergreen can work with nature, the environment, and the client to create cost effective natural solutions to wildlife control.
