Drones help do a better job …. quickerÂ
Drones fitted with thermal cameras are a game changer when it comes to monitoring pest species, wildlife management and conservation especially on large areas of land.
We have recently been using ours to carry out a range of thermal surveys for a few schemes; including working with these systems to aid our Rabbit control systems. The drones allows us to find the smallest of animals remotely without disturbance and has allowed us to find exact species locations and quantity regardless of terrain. The thermal is fitted with a heat range alarm that highlights animals and birds along the drone’s pre-programmed flight path, as it passes over it allows us to see all that is moving below live which we can then also record for clients.
We have been using the drone to better gain to access numbers of rabbits within hard to reach areas like; woodland, parkland and cliff faces, as well as farmland at night meaning we have a great insight of the areas to target within these high lighted spots shortly after.
Its always interesting to see wildlife at night moving around without disturbance and it also provides great to aid our work!
The clip below is from a previous wildlife survey, it really shows how effective the camera is at highlighting the animals locations in the dark and the spots which are highly populated.
