We have recently been contracted to resolve rabbit issues that had made the recreational areas in a Hampshire school unusable and dangerous for its pupils.
Excessive digging of the playing fields had turned the area from a safe haven into a veritable health and safety minefield for the children.
Some of the rabbits were living on adjacent land around the perimeter of the school and “commuting” in to feed and cause destruction, whilst others lived under buildings and in warrens across the site.
The high numbers of this pest meant that robust rabbit proof fencing around the perimeter was needed as well as making all of the gated entry points rabbit proofed too.
Working to exacting standards, this work took several days to fit and to bury the rabbit netting to the correct depth via a digger, ensuring that the “commuters” could not return.
Once completed, and with a large percentage of rabbits now prevented from visiting the site, it was time to remove rabbits living within the new secure perimeter.
Effective eradication was completed using traditional methods working with our team of trained dogs to find the rabbits and then our ferrets which were used to flush them into nets.
Rabbits living under classrooms were removed by encircling the buildings with nets and then sending our team of expert ferrets in to convince them to leave – a very effective method.
A follow up shooting session helped us to remove over 50 rabbits and make the area safe for the children to use once again.
The school are now happy that the children can return in the coming weeks and go back to enjoying their sport and recreational time in the great outdoors rather than the indoor confines of the gymnasium.
