Whilst not living up to the full English Idiom of, “Being as mad as a March Hare” here at Evergreen March has been one mad busy month!
On top of ensuring that our regular farming customers receive our key focus at this key time of year, the Evergreen phone has almost been ringing off of the hook!
Schools, Conservation areas, Golf courses and Industrial sites have all been wanting rabbit numbers controlled and further damage prevented.
The UK’s push towards a massive increase in homegrown renewable energy has also resulted in the need for eradication, control and proofing on a number of new solar farms up and down the country.
Along with this we also spent a week controlling rabbits on a remote island in the Hebrides. A wonderful part of the world in the right conditions, but in March with freezing temperatures and raging storms the term, “Wild Camping” was really put to the test.
A small team of us used a mixed-method approach to remove rabbits from burrows during the day supported by shooting at night.
During the day we use trained dogs to locate rabbits which were flushed by ferrets into our long nets. By night we used thermal imaging equipment including our drone fitted with thermal cameras (when the weather permitted us to fly) to locate rabbits and make the best use of our time on the island.
More jobs ticked off the list, more happy customers, with Evergreen delivering service and quality on time and on budget despite everything that Mother Nature has to throw at us!
